How the Psychological Report for Immigrants Improves Your Chances of Getting a Visa.

It’s essential to be prepared when you’re applying for a visa. One part of the application that can help your case has a psychological report. This report helps assess your mental health and how it might impact your ability to travel and live in a new country. Here’s what you need to know about getting one.

What is the immigrant psychological report?

The immigrant psychological report is a document that assesses an applicant’s mental health and overall psychological well-being. It is typically used with other medical evaluations performed during the visa application process.

Often, an immigrant psychological report isn’t necessary when applying for a visa. However, getting one done can improve your chances of getting approved for a visa, as this report shows your ability to cope with the stress of relocating to a new country.

What is included in the report?

The immigrant psychological report includes information on your mental health history, current mental health symptoms, and overall psychological well-being. The report will also assess your ability to adjust to life in a new country and culture.

Some of the things you’ll be assessed on include:

  •         Your mental health history

  •         Current mental health symptoms

  •         Overall psychological well-being

  •         Ability to adjust to life in a new country and culture

What are the benefits of getting a psychological report?

Getting a psychological report completed as an immigrant can improve your chances of getting approved for a visa. It will show that you are mentally and emotionally prepared to relocate to a new country.

There are several other benefits of getting a psychological report, including:

  • peace of mind knowing that you are psychologically prepared for the move

  • getting an official document that can be used as evidence of your good mental health

  • having a professional assessment of your psychological well-being

What are the risks of not getting a psychological report?

Not getting a psychological report as an immigrant can put you at a disadvantage when applying for a visa. It may be more challenging to prove that you are psychologically prepared to relocate to a new country without this report.

It is recommended that you get a psychological report if you have experienced the following:

  •         Mental health problems in the past

  •         Recent stressful life events

  •         Difficulty adjusting to new situations or environments

  •         Family or friends who have expressed concern about your mental health

All of the above can impact your ability to get a visa, and getting a psychological report can help improve your chances of success.

How do I get a psychological report done?

We’re able to assist you with getting a psychological report done. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us to learn more. The process starts with a meeting between your immigration lawyer and a licensed mental health practitioner to gather the information needed to conduct the assessment. During this consultation, any pertinent information about your case will be shared.

Over up to 3 in-depth interviews, you will be asked questions about your mental health history, current symptoms, and overall psychological well-being. You may be asked about your family, work history, personal and marital history, psychological history, and any other information relevant to your psychological assessment.

Once the interviews are completed, the mental health practitioner will write a report including their findings and recommendations. This report will then be submitted to your immigration lawyer, who will use it as part of your visa application.

What are you assessed on?

Every case is unique. However, some of the measures that may be used during your psychological assessment include:

  • Adaptive Behavior Scales

  • Partner Violence Surveys

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist

  • Depression Anxiety Stress Scales

  • Mood and Anxiety Symptom Questionnaire

  • Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support

Many other assessments are included in psychological reports, and the specific measures used will be based on your individual needs.

How long will it take?

After receiving all of the information I need, I will have the report done for you in five business days (not holidays or weekends). This timeline can be impacted by many factors, such as the time it takes the client to answer all the questions Online – Client Portal and Psychological Evaluation – and the availability for the virtual appointment.

It is important to note that some visa applications require a psychological report to be completed within a specific timeframe (e.g., 60 days), so it is essential to plan and allow enough time for the information to be completed.
